Here at Las Cruces Dental Solutions, we are passionate about spending time in nature and appreciating the beauty around us. Our team enjoys many different outdoor activities, including playing sports, camping, snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, and hiking. We care greatly about the preservation of our planet’s environments, resources, and wildlife, and we hope you do too. Did you know that there are ways you can be conscientious about conservation when it comes to your dental hygiene? Here are a few simple tips to make your oral care routine more environmentally friendly:

  1. Turn Off the Water
  2. Water is arguably our most precious natural resource, especially here in the New Mexico desert. We are fortunate to have this treasure available to us, and it’s something we should never take for granted since some parts of the world are without access to clean drinking water. To conserve water, remember to turn off the faucet while you’re brushing your teeth instead of letting it run the entire two minutes. Moreover, teach your children to do the same during their oral care. Making this simple change can save up to 8 gallons of water each day!

  3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
  4. It may be possible to recycle certain materials like toothbrushes or toothpaste tubes, but some facilities do not take them. To find a recycling solution for used dental products near you, check out one of North America’s largest databases of recycling centers, Earth911®. You can also repurpose an old toothbrush. Use it to polish jewelry, clean grimy spaces in your home like around the handle of your bathroom sink, or as a paintbrush for crafts. Additionally, consider investing in an electric toothbrush to cut down on your landfill contribution. Using an electric toothbrush is not only great for your oral health, but also significantly better for the environment. It’s estimated that it would take between 14-42 electric toothbrush heads to equal one traditional toothbrush in the landfill. If you’re unsure which electric toothbrush is right your unique dental needs, ask us for recommendations!

  5. Choose an Environmentally-Conscious Dentist
  6. Our team at Las Cruces Dental Solutions takes our stewardship of the environment very seriously. We seek to conserve water, reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible to preserve the beauty of our world for future generations. At your next visit, let us know if you’d like to talk more about how being health conscious isn’t just about our body; it’s also about caring for the health of our beautiful planet. After all, there is no planet B!
