Healthy Snacks for a Healthy Mouth
To help you maintain healthy teeth, we’ve gathered some of our favorite snacks that are rich in nutrients and great for your dental health!
- Dark leafy greens & veggies — Contain vitamins A, B2 & magnesium
- Cheese, milk & yogurt — Contain calcium & help protect teeth from erosion
- Pumpkin — Contains vitamins A & C, zinc, iron & helps promote a healthy immune system
- Citrus Fruits — Contain vitamin C & help maintain healthy amount of collagen in gums
Negative Effects of Candy on Dental Health
While candy is delicious, it also contains a lot of sugar that can have negative effects on your teeth. Sugar is highly acidic and eats away at your tooth enamel. It can also cause an excess amount of plaque as well as bad breath. We all crave a sweet treat from time to time so have some candy, avoid ones that stick to your teeth (like caramel) or sit in your mouth for long periods of time (like lollipops). If you’re looking for something sweet AND good for you, try snacking on fresh fruit!
