When should I begin taking my child to the dentist?
It is generally recommended that kids begin seeing a dentist regularly by the time they turn one or when their first tooth grows in, whichever happens first. It’s a good idea to establish a dental home for your child when they are young to help them become familiar with dentistry and to help curb any possible dental anxiety. If your child is older and hasn’t seen a dentist yet, our team will be happy to work with them whenever you are able to schedule a visit with us.
Our Child-Friendly Services
Our team offers a variety of services that kids of all ages can utilize. Once your child reaches their preteen and teen years, we can begin discussing clear aligner therapy and wisdom teeth removal. Our other kid-friendly dental services include:
- Gentle Cleanings & Exams
- Dental Sealants
- Fluoride Treatments
- Tooth-Colored Fillings
What should I do if my child has a toothache?
If your child has recently begun complaining of a mild toothache, there are a few home remedies you can try. If they are old enough to rinse and spit, have them rinse with a warm saltwater solution, which you can make using half a teaspoon of salt and a cup of warm (not hot) water. Over-the-counter pain medications and ice packs can also work well to reduce discomfort. If the pain ever becomes severe, please call our office for an emergency appointment.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Annual or biannual dental X-rays are perfectly safe for children. Our team uses digital X-rays machines, which not only provide a clearer picture for our team to provide more accurate diagnoses, they also emit 80% less radiation than traditional X-rays. This means that it is perfectly safe for children and adults to receive dental X-rays at our practice as often as necessary. If you have any questions about our technology, our team would be happy to assist.
